That’s horrific. We spent 3 years in PNG many years ago. Mostly in Lae, but traveled around as much as we could. We heard lots of stories about violent events, rapes, murders. We were lucky - hindsight tends to favour the positive experiences over the negative. I’m sorry you had such a nightmare
