It's an exquisitely unique pain to be traumatized by those I loved the most.
To fall on swords over and over to appease people who would only see the worst in me no matter how much ground I gave. To still be painted as the villain, even when they took all the spoils and left me with ashes.

I remembered those interactions when I got dressed to sun myself in my semi-private back yard. My nipples were somewhat visible through my shirt.
My nipples and I are getting a tan today. If that's a problem for you, please stay out of my back yard.

I later left that Church when, after giving my required confession, the Priest began to chastise me for the cut of my blouse, rather than address the matters I had expressed concern about during Confession.
At the end of the service, I walked out without his blessing.

When the subject of my baptism came up, expressed discomfort with being asked to do so in a swimsuit. I suggested a t-shirt and shorts instead, and was very soundly told that was forbidden. When I asked why I was told "Nipples, my dear."

It is true that for ever after he remained [a friend of many]; but he was no longer quite respectable.
He was in fact held by all the hobbits of the neighborhood to be "queer" - except by his nephews and nieces on the Took side, but even they were not encouraged in their friendship by their elders.
