There are a lot of problems many can make go away, but it’s so funny watching people get richer and richer and panicking as they realizing which ones can’t be.

Also you can buy people’s love, but that usually involves buying something for the people.

Yeah, that’s exactly how the Romans described them.

But fr you could probably find quite a few Roman descriptions of Britons that match the alphas words-for-word, and apparently there may have actually have been a head cult? Like archaeologists just found a bunch of heads lying around.

The way at this point that a 34 year old in 1989 dying now would have been a normal albeit slightly short lifespan.

Chinese military parades spend months rehearsing and they do things like pair off people based on similar heights. I don’t think a good march indicates military readiness at all but this is embarrassing.

I keep getting the hunch he is not fully in the loop of what is actually happening. Like he really does think we at just arresting gang members and criminals until one of his agribusiness friends calls him.

But yeah nothing that actually stuck.

The words “hurts like Satan” have been rattling around in my brain for 20 years.

Also this:

Then why the wuss headline?

As someone who was a teenager in the 00s rumors have been swirling for years. There were stories all over the groupie forums and everyone knew someone underage he was too friendly with backstage. There were posts and even podcasts but nothing stuck. Certain…anatomical details were consistent.

What the actual fuck language is this. “Extraordinary action,” “rare use.” Why not “unconstitutional” or “illegal?” Or maybe “coup-like?”

I keep saying we need to bring back bullying for this one particular thing.

Worth pointing out that W was a proponent of phonics (even though some Whole Language model stuff made it into NCLB). He was literally in a phonics lesson when this happened. Anyway, many teachers who hated NCLB had an aversion to phonics as well because it was a Bush thing.

This still isn’t good…it’s not *as* bad but the China stuff might be catastrophic.

He’s learning I guess? I hope?

Sure (although I live comfortably in an apartment not much larger than this), but when people say “middle class” this is what that meant in the 50s. A lot of middle class people today would not accept it.

I need these people to really look at this house and ask if anyone wants that “middle class life” anymore. That’s probably the one car they have and I would be shocked if that place had more than one bathroom.

I think most gifted kids do go one to have good careers and be successful but they don’t identify as “gifted kids” because that was 30 years ago and they’ve done other things since then they are prouder of.

I love her commentaries on translation where she dives into the various choices she and other translators of Homer have made. She’s not my favorite translator of Homer but definitely the one I have learned the most from. They were on Twitter but who knows now

Once Augustus gathered all the unmarried and/or childless noble women in Rome together and grilled them on why they didn’t have kids. When given a choice, many women opt out of childbirth and always have.

I have been to Venice, and could swing it again for sub-$3k if I go in the off-season even in a real hotel. Even if I do it every year that’s way less expensive than having a child. It’s millennials getting brunch all over again—we have small indulgences because big milestones are out of reach.

The US army can set up a Taco Bell or McDonald’s in a war zone within 48 hours and as far as I am concerned that is a feat that would make Julius Caesar or Alexander the Great weep.
