Marathons have a huge impact on the environment. Even though cities may provide trash cans along the course for participants to put cups and gel packages in it's unlikely that every piece of trash is disposed of properly. As someone who participates in half marathons this is an eye opening topic.

I'd also imagine that being in debt from hosting the olympics put the citizens of Greece at a financial disadvantage, probably having to pay higher taxes to help pay for financial repercussions Greece would have faced.

I totally agree, extreme weather can make it dangerous for players to participate in sport. I've never thought about the economic impacts that extreme weather could cause to teams.

I think this is a great way for athletes to spread awareness, and voice their opinions about social issues in politics!

This could look like providing grocery money to those who are low income and are told to eat healthier or follow certain diet guidelines by doctors.

Soaring food prices could have major impact on Canadians' health | CBC News
Food prices have soared to their highest rates in almost half a century — and that could lead to some serious impacts on Canadians' health.

Even as inflation has slowed, food prices continue to rise, which is growing the barrier between those who have low income and access to healthier foods. The government needs to do something to help those who cannot afford healthy food.

This is a great example of power in sport! It's interesting that there is a hierarchy seen even in localized high school sports and although it definitely would benefit your team I wonder how the teams who did not have power over the schedule felt.

I found this very interesting as I love watching the athletics events during the olympics and I definitely think this strategy to maintain global interest will work.

The LA 2028 Olympics have recently announced their event schedule. Athletics will run the entire length of the games, and the women's 100 meter final will take place on day 1. Several reports say kicking off day one with the women's 100 meter races all in one day is to sustain global interest.

I find this really sad that we jump to broadcasting sports from another country over broadcasting the U-Sport athletes in Canada. Less media coverage could significantly effect future opportunities for U-Sport athletes as well.
November 20, 2025 at 10:29 PM
I totally agree that if the paralympics had more media coverage it would bring more awareness to athletes with diabilities. Athletes with disabilities work equally as hard, if not harder than abled body athletes and they definitely deserve more coverage and recognition!

It's unfortunate to see that fans are literally attacking and potentially hurting a team because they beat the team they cheer for. Organizations should be implementing stronger protocols to protect the players.

It's crazy how out of hand hazing rituals can get and it's so sad to see that individuals part of these teams feel pressured to take part in violent acts such as this one.

It's crazy how someone would completely disregard a doctors reccomendations when you're leg is literally broken, just to play in a tournoment that happens every year. Yet I know I myself have danced on hurt ankles and strained muscles because taking time to recover is not normalized.
November 10, 2025 at 9:37 PM
I feel like as a society we've normalized playing through injuries too much. AN example of this is in 2008 when Tiger Woods played the U.S Open on a wrecked knee and broken tibia, ignoring his doctors recommendations completely. www.espn.com/golf/story/_...

The head of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) calls for the act to stop the Enhanced Games from happening. The Enhanced Games takes place in Las Vegas next year and allows for athletes to take PEDs in competition. The head of WADA thinks that this is dangerous and irresponsible and I agree.
