Interesting - but isn’t the fundamental problem that there are too many papers driven by a system largely driven by the commercial publishers aiming to maximise profit ahead of the integrity of scholarly comms?
Great survey of current initiatives in the space of peer review, including quotes from @RoRInstitute colleagues and collaborators, and accompanied by another fantastic David Parkin illustration

I wrote a thing...

I'm anxious the narrative is not about the funding crisis in HE. These things were always bad. Tough times call for tough choices and when people are being laid off all over the place, IMO, this isn't that tough a choice. If it was just me, I would have cancelled ages ago

Yep. We have been out of contract with Elsevier at MIT for 4.5 years now, at substantial savings to the Institute. Happy to share our experience with any library interested in following suit.
Exclusive: ‘Lots more’ university libraries could drop big subscription deals.

After several institutions drop Elsevier deals, senior librarians say rising costs and severe financial strain have reached a “tipping point”.

Looking forward to contributing to the review process and to what promise to be another great conference @libereurope.bsky.social
I have spent the entire day working on the reviewing process of the @libereurope.bsky.social conference. This version, with more than 200 submissions from 40 countries, is driving my excitement to new heights. Very fascinating ideas & practices from research libraries from all over the world.
