Hush money scandal engulfs Albanese Govt over staffer's historic rape claim
A Parliament House researcher was twice asked to sign a confidentiality agreement by the Albanese Government over allegations she was discriminated against and bullied when she disclosed how she was allegedly raped as a young woman in politics.

After the May federal election, Australia’s federal parliament has almost reached gender parity. By my calculations the House of Representatives in the 48th Parliament will be 46% women and the Senate 56.6% women. The Parliament as a whole will be 49.6% women.

Three years after the Jenkins report, there is still work to be done on improving parliament culture.
Excellent article by Maria Maley of ANU. As someone who has experienced the worst of that culture I know firsthand how much work remains to be done. /1

Since the release of the “Set the Standard” report in 2021, there has been a flurry of activity in response. But some of it may not be as effective as it could be.

Based on personal experience, white men can (‘allegedly’) sexually assault, bully & discriminate against women at work - including in parliament - and face zero consequences. Relax guys. /1
