At the same time, Black police officers were excluded from this police identity, steering clear of these neighborhoods. This tells us more abt the relationship between police identity and anti-Black racism.

that these neighborhoods take on a police identity that allow ANY neighborhood resident to ID as "police," regardless of occupation – as long as they weren't Black. This police identity was articulated thru instances of anti-Black racism: here, being "blue" means being anti-Black
