Have they never heard of the Schengen area? I'm old enough to remember the 1st time we drove through the Austria-Italy border w/o checks. I was young & optimistic and thought "This Is the future, why were we spending money on that?!"

On the Eurostar back home, still thinking of this.
I don't remember this "rite of passage" vibe (maybe I'm not middle-class enough, I came on a scholarship!), what I think we felt was a sense that an entire continent was now our home. We did what many Brits did, came to London, to stay, maybe.

Growing old means loving a place and being happy to have left it.
And holding the contradiction in you heart.

My timeline.
I don't know if it's more terrifying to see things unfold in the US or that we are wondering about the same over here.

Awful news all around.
Collective action is what is needed to make us all feel a bit less powerless.
But beauty is also needed to feed the soil. It's a beautiful morning for a #parkrun.

The quotes and replies are hilarious - or depressing.
This one is not parody, apparently.
I've literally done everything he lists here apart from the motorbike.

This bizarre interaction I witnessed a couple of days ago stayed with me.
At first I wondered if this man has ever spoken to an actual woman.
It turns out that he has 8 children, has recently "given away in marriage" his eldest daughter.
We inhabit very different worlds.

For the followers of bread matters... I can confirm this is how their bread normally looks, and yes they too can bake in hot weather*!

*when I moved to N Europe ages ago I often heard people complaining about the difficulty of doing things that people in warmer climates, called lazy, do regularly.

I need to internet experts to comment, because for me this is a loaf of bread that has not properly risen.
Teaspoon for reference.
It's so heavy as well!

Democracy is hard and imperfect, but still the best form of government.

I am still finding words to explain what I mean that I can simultaneously feel a strong sense of belonging to places where I have lived (they made me who I am) and yet feeling none of them is all mine.
It's a bit like relationships: they all shape us, they are never all there is to us.

Nope. This ad spoiled my Sunday.
If you have #T1D you know it's not exactly silent, it is pretty constantly shouting at you.
It's not linked to habits or behaviour, so stop telling people not to eat cake.
This is called disease-mongering. Testing should be approached with a lot of care.
I'm fuming!

I have been on here for a month, posted very little, yet managed to already get this type of exchange.
Lovely.

Lovely people who follow me (and I feel like I know you all) - do you have 5-8 min of your time to answer 5 questions about #career progression and change?
I swear it is quick and would be very helpful for me!
