I liked him as a character but wished they wrote his path differently like him catching every pokemon was kind like ??? Would of perfered if he was a trainer and ash was actively teaching him to battle.

Well there not going to be coming back to any of the hero's story until season 2. This season is basically just the back stories of the Top 10 heros and how they got there. Season two is where we will start getting answers to all the unsolved shit we have right now.
