I just pulled out an old song of mine, charted it with almost no help, and played a portion of the melody on the keyboard with one try. This is huge for me. Now to find a local jazz band to sing it with. I have feelers out, but needed the chart to go with my a cappella recording. #jazz #songwriter

Is it just me? Am I the only person over 60 who doesn’t appreciate being marketed to as though I am some lesser version human who needs easy, simplified things? As a marketer, I get demographics, but don’t rebrand your widget as a senior widget. You will lose me in a hot second.

I’m giving my songwriting more of my time and attention. Writing and finding homes for books and stories was so solitary. I much prefer songwriting and playing music with the hubby. I play cajon and am learning to play the ukulele. Look for us at akatheband.com.

I was dealing with tech support with my boss in her office and lost track of time. As I’m walking to my desk, I notice it’s getting dark out, then hear a train. My train. I rushed out without my usual tidying rituals and making sure I had everything. Got the train, but I’m still frazzed.

The very best thing yesterday was Willy Jordan beginning his performance at our local club by simply holding his phone to the mic as it played a portion of MLK’s “I Have a Dream”speech. My country has been taken hostage as has democracy, but I will press on, sending out love and hope.

Went on a foraging outing at Timber Cove, on California’s North Coast. It was quite the experience. No trails, uneven terrain. But, oh, who doesn’t like a scavenger hunt? And awesome chocolate pecorino mushroom cookies, mushroom pate and mushroom miso. Yum!
