I do think that it is worth mourning a life where you were better treated by others, because even if the past is the past, you will always still deserve that better treatment in the present and in the future...

Even if your mom took this long to do this, I don't know if I could say she was ever graceful in her patience towards you from the way you've talked about her behavior over the years... Like if you were extended even just a bit more grace then you could have started wanting to work on your own...
