I have an interest in many different fields and kind of see this same feeling arise. Right now I am trying to get rid of the idea that my view is that of an outlier and instead find a way where I can feel that my ideas are helping to create a more comprehensive and compassionate perspective. For me there seems to be a common thread around the pain of losing it when, still, we can just as easily come up with a new way of shaping our identity, connecting dots to give it a particular sense and even reinventing it.

For me there seems to be a common thread around the pain of losing it when, still, we can just as easily come up with a new way of shaping our identity, connecting dots to give it a particular sense and even reinventing it.
It’s interesting how there are so many ways of making sense of our identity, how each of us might shape it, how we shape it from different perspectives culturally or, in this case, scientifically.

Even worse, if determinism breaks down, we can’t be sure of our past history
either. The history books and our memories could just be illusions. It is the past that tells us who we are. Without it, we lose our identity.»
