just finished The Dark Forest for book club and man, what an incredible story. pacing felt a little sluggish in spots and I don't think Noel Martinsen's translation work is quite as good as Ken Liu's but it was still nearly impossible to put down. can't wait to read the next one.

just finished the playtest of Haunted Paws with a friend and it was really good! great co-op, just the right balance of silly and spooky. still pretty buggy but nothing I wouldn't expect from something still in development. I'm really looking forward to its release now!

But it's also very gentle and forgiving. All the villagers are nice. There are technically things to do. Nook Miles quests in ACNH give you some objectives to meet. But it's your playground, ultimately. I always think of it like one of those Japanese rock gardens, which is probably no coincidence.

Just want everyone to know I have officially selected a new favorite Animal Crossing villager and that villager is Murphy.
Murphy, a cranky type bear cub villager. He is key lime green with an emerald green spot over his right ear and cream muzzle and paws. He wears a dark blue puffer vest over a greige sweater.

I found this neat ACNH island planner and it's been SUCH a major help since it lets me fuss around with the general layout without getting too bogged down by details (and it's a huge time-saver compared to actually doing all this in-game first)

I can't wait to bring my vision to life😤

AP Race Call: Democrat Zohran Mamdani wins New York City mayor's race. Mamdani won 913,885 votes, or 50.6% of the total. Andrew Cuomo won 776,547 votes, or 41.3% of the total. Curtis Sliwa won 137,030 votes, or 7.3% of the total.

A not insignificant percentage of Swift’s fans believe that she is secretly gay. These so-called “gaylors” became a blip on my radar around the time folklore/evermore came out (I guess something about America’s Supreme High Femme in a flannel coat was just a little too butch for some people to handle) but their presence really ramped up with the release of Midnights, specifically the album’s first track, “Lavender Haze.” It is, in fact, the only thing I ever heard about this album, other than the song’s first single “Anti-Hero,” the one song I’ve already heard before this listen and have thoughts about that we will certainly get to. Given that she has since married a football player, arguably the most heterosexual thing a woman can do, I suspect this theory has aged like milk. But I’ll be keeping it in mind while I listen. then there's a link to read more. One day, while trying to figure out what I could possibly write and post about, Taylor Swift dropped an album called The Life of a Showgirl. I considered listening to it—all I really knew at that point was that it was an album written in reflection of the Eras tour and that Swift’s previous album had been unimpressive. It then occurred to me that I hadn’t actually listened to THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT. In fact, I hadn’t listened to Midnights either. And so, an idea hatched.
