But man, proud man,
Dressed in a little brief authority,
Most ignorant of what he's most assured,
. . .
Plays such fantastic tricks before high heaven
As make the angels weep;

Isabella, in Act 2, Scene 2 of Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure"

Pelicans are strange on land, a little scary up close, ridiculous when coming in for a landing, but incredibly aerodynamic and graceful flying just above the surface of the water. Amazing birds!

When the pain is that great, it’s hard to be conscious of much else. I’m so sorry.

I recall that the writing style was very pun-forward, but it was actually the author’s sexism that didn’t age well. It didn’t register when I was a teen, but I couldn’t ignore it as an adult.

I have a theory that everyone who loves reading goes through at least one serious Stephen King eras. I’ve had at least three myself, where I devour one King book after another. This list seems to be validating that theory. 🩷

Just a brilliant book. My favorite authors are the ones who are hopelessly, shamelessly, crazy in love with language.

I remember loving this book but can’t recall many details. Time for a reread!

I adored this series when I discovered it in high school. I tried to read the books again years later and found I still loved the concept, but the writing hadn’t aged well for me. Still a fond memory, though! My favorite characters were the Fates.

Borrowed this from a friend while doing summer stock. That edition had a clown on the cover that seemed to glow in the dark. I read the book during the day but put it out in the hall at night. Ah youth. 😊🤡
