Irish civil rights hero Bernadette McAliskey née Devlin (right) shares how we can work together to fight fascism:

Lead more and control less. Always question or call out bigotry. Protect minoritized people at all costs. Accept the truth of Rosa Luxemburg— it’s either socialism or barbarism.

ALASKANS STAND WITH UKRAINE! In less than a week we’ve stood up protests across the state, calling out war crimes and refusing any sign of complicity with authoritarians of any kind.
Go to hell, Putin and Trump.

Breakfast of champions: parboiled potatoes with beach asparagus tossed in for the last few minutes of cooking with sockeye and halibut spoon meat cooked in butter. Spoon meat is what we scrape off the bones after butchering. #Alaskasky

3 years ago I found out I was moving to NI for a PhD and converted my Alaska garden into a perennial landscape to reduce maintenance while away. Wowzer! It’s overgrown, weedy, and this is the least colorful moment of the summer, but it’s doing great! Description for garden nerds ⬇️ #Alaskasky

I’m grieving the approaching loss of North Douglas to industrial tourism. I sang to the blueberries as I picked them and cooed at the first flush of mushrooms. I nibbled on seaweed and found a broken eagle eggshell. My heart hurts to lose this place to cruise ships. #Alaskasky

Yay! Bounty season! We spent the Friday fishing and picking crab pots. I spent the night vacuum sealing and making fish stock from the halibut bones. The crab has been given away and rhubarb-blueberry pie was for breakfast. Fight fascism with food security and generosity! #Alaskasky

And let me know if you would like a copy of the guide.

In response to another ecocidal Executive Order, I spent today reading Salmon in the Trees, a sumptuous portrait of the Tongass National Forest and its communities of life.

I read it overlooking the denuded hills of Ireland, which once was a coastal temperate rainforest, like the Tongass. 🧵

From the German Resistance Museum, which I visited in Berlin on Wednesday. “Only a few artist and academics dared to rebel” against the Nazis. It seems most of civil society, including universities and nonprofits, are compromised by their funding models.

Justice for Mobuoy panel tonight at the Derry Playhouse. Mobuoy is the largest illegal dump in Europe, 5 meters from the river where Derry gets drinking water. Justice for Mobuoy= punishing those who allowed this, remediation, a public inquiry with legislative change, plastic producer responsibility

Sea weed, weeds, and unkempt fields excite me these days. In Alaska we take for granted the life that surrounds us. Here in Ireland monocultures of shorn grass are interrupted by football pitches of even shorter grass.
