Panel 1: The dragon has almost instantly appeared directly in front of Ket, antennae twitching towards her making quiet Bzt! noises, whiskers flowing as the dragon invades her space. Ket falls backwards, gasping deeply in shock at the speed the dragon moves. Panel 2: Ket stammers, looking up at this bizarre creature before her, overwhelmed. Ket: i- ah... Panel 3: The heat, stress and shock get to her and she faints into the darkness of panel 4.

Panel 1: The dragon lies down, trembling, extends a long thin tongue to drink from the stream. Ket: (thought bubble) is it- injured? Panel 2: The dragon suddenly glows brightly, long whiskers curling up and making a humming noise, all the injuries have disappeared Panel 3: Live Ket reaction, her eyes catch the light as she gasps in amazement. Ket: Woah! Panel 4: The dragon's eyes go wide, antennae shoot up straight with a Bzt! Panel 5: The dragon turns to face Ket, three black pupiless eyes staring straight towards her.

Panel 1: Ket opens her water skin by pulling the cork out with her teeth. Panel 2: She kneels and fills it from the remains of the river, which is now a thin trickle. Panel 3: Ket takes a drink, hoping it will hold off heat stroke. Panel 4: There is loud SLUMP! Off panel and Ket looks up in shock. Panel 5: An injured, insectoid looking dragon crawls out from behind a break in the rock, covered in wounds the dragon drips small puddles of blood onto the drying river bed. Ket is in shock, hides quickly behind a jutting out part of the gorge wall, she mouths to herself. Ket: *dragon!*

Ket respects vultures and their vital ecological role but she'd rather they not be actively waiting for her to die.
Panel 1: Ket walks over the cracked rapidly drying mud as the formerly raging river is reduced to a thin stream. Ket: Drying up already? Panel 2: From above we see she is still tracked by the vulture. Panel 3: Ket starts to feel the effects of heat exhaustion as the sun beats down and the vulture soars high above her. Ket: (tiredly) I see why we usually travel by night... Panel 4: Ket slumps down against the walls of the gorge and sighs, trying to get a little shade. The vulture has landed and regards her curiously. Panel 5: In silhouette Ket throws a small rock at the vulture who takes off. Ket: Shoo!

Ket looks determined, despite her still wet eyes and running nose. Panel 4: Text box: Track the sun- Ket uses a shadow stick to follow the Sun's path across the sky Text box: -find north... Panel 5: Text box: ...follow the river back... Ket stands up, determined to survive, her injured arm tucked into the front of her robes like a makeshift sling. The vulture continues to watch her. Text box: You're a navigator, are you not?

Me, trying to write for a younger audience: They like shoulder reductions right?
Panel 1: The rain has completely disappeared, a vulture flies high above as Ket coughs and wretches. Panel 2: Ket crawls weakly out of the now much calmer and shallow stream. She vomits. Panel 3: Ket kneels and inspects her right shoulder, it is twisted at an unnatural angle and hangs limp. Ket: (muttering to herself) no no no Panel 4: Ket pushes her shoulder in with a POP! Her face twists in pain and is initially silent. Panel 5: From a birds eye view we see Ket, tiny against the vast desert screaming in agony as the vulture circles above.

While Ket's people cross the desert during the "coolest" months rain storms like this are unprecedented.
