We appreciate the debate btw, that's the whole point!
But please read the full statement to see our position

it's not a bad one but it's not exactly that either, is it? And it doesn't resolve the main issue with "art". In the end it's more important to show we are against it, rather than getting lost in the details, and do something about it.

So while we agree that "art" is a human expression only, for the purposes of a small image to be printed on (for example) pins it was an acceptable wording that conveyed the general sentiment.
Our full position is explained at length in the statement!

This was part of a big discussion within the coalition. We all agree on this, but here's our reasoning :
a_ We don't like "content" either.
b_ The coalition includes many disciplines (voice acting, writers, animation, etc)
c_ This is an image to be printed in many sizes so it had to be concise.

The objective of our union is to one day sign agreements regarding wages, but we recommend that you use this to fight for yours and your colleagues wage at your contract negotiations today✊

If you have any questions, contact us by email or send us a dm!

These numbers are based on our Wage Survey 2024, which included self-reported wages spanning 2023 and 2024, from disciplines and seniority levels across the industry. While it is in its majority comprised of 2D Cut-out Animators, we've found that the differences between roles are not  significant.

We offer both metrics so you can orient yourself better regarding what you are earning compared to others and compared to national objective metrics.

Many on the lower end of the spectrum would be making less than minimum wage if adjusted for inflation alone, while perhaps on the higher end the expectation would be too unrealistic if adjusted to minimum wage with the current situation of the industry.
May 12, 2025 at 11:02 AM
You'll have to find your own place within these parameters, according to experience, project, etc.We have adjusted these rates for 2025 according to two metrics: inflation and minimum wage.

This is a great opportunity to socialise with members, ask questions, and get to know your fellow animators in the city! The event is open to non members interested in knowing more, so please come along, bring your union curious friends and get involved. Can't wait to see you there!
