Estimating population immunity to SARS-CoV-2 by random sampling from primary and secondary healthcare in Scotland, May 2024
In the absence of systematic COVID-19 serosurveillance, random sampling of sera from biorepositories associated with major health boards can generate valuable data about the level of immunity in the g...

How do we assess COVID-19 immunity in the general population and whether current vaccines afford protection against current viral variants? Using random samples from a hospital biorepository, we assessed the effects of age, vaccine doses, and waning immunity on SARS-CoV-2 neutralisation.

With the ending of nationwide COVID-19 serosurveillance, our understanding of COVID-19 immunity in the general population has diminished. Vaccination is focused solely on maintaining immunity in at-risk populations; the elderly, healthcare workers, and those with weakened immune systems.

How do you track population immunity to COVID when national surveillance has ceased? A random selection of 1000 serum samples from the bio-repository of a major health board reveals valuable insights into current levels of COVID immunity.

Our cross-sectional study of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) in N. Tanzania revealed high seroprevalence in humans and livestock. CCHFV represents an unrecognized human health risk and should be included in differential diagnoses for febrile illness.
