I believe that there is an objective reality that can be known, a subjective reality for every individual mind, and that effective use of language can be both the bridge between any two of these.
The second is from the musical #Hadestown, specifically the Chant (Reprise), shortly after Orpheus has inspired the damned in his efforts to rescue Eurydice. The lyric is a recognition that freedom means something different to those in power, among the many additional interpretations.

The first comes from the album Evolution by Disturbed; the song is A Reason to Fight, and it is a powerful rallying call against giving up, even when everything seems hopeless, and standing with those who are suffering and struggling.

What started as a raw commentary on geek culture evolved (both thematically and in amazing art style) to a very emotionally complex narrative. It's not going to be for everyone, but it's definitely worth the read, and the fact that it's fully finished means you don't have to wait to see how it ends.

One part stuck with me more than any other though, and that was the monologue from the actor playing Bob Geldof about the experience of visiting Ethiopia, seeing the suffering of the starving, and holding a child in his arms as it died. The whole show was brilliant, but that monologue hit me hard.

I was very fortunate to acquire a signed first edition hardcover at Bakka-Phoenix in Toronto a few years ago to replace my (very well worn) mass market paperback; however, I still only read the paperback, and probably will until it falls apart.

The interweaving of the narratives in the story is elegant, human, and earnest. The acts of cooperation between those of different beliefs are truly inspiring, especially against a backdrop of holy wars, intolerance, and bigotry. It doesn't hurt that his characters are always so well developed.

2) If someone has to ask what side I'm on, I have failed. There are times when both sides will be wrong, and a third path should be sought, but that path should never be neutrality; rather, it should be a proactive engagement with potential solutions that challenge the existing dichotomies.

Based off Amman's blog, this book explores the monsters of the D&D 5E Monster Manual, providing an effective breakdown of their stats and abilities and deriving logical tactics from them. Since I read this, my players have had much more enjoyable combat encounters.

Some excellent reads! I just finished The Serviceberry myself, and On Tyranny has been a touchstone of a text for me ever since it released in 2017.

Favourite Storyline: Build Mama a Coffin (if you haven't subscribed to get the extra stories, I highly recommend it. They're well worth it.)

Favourite Villain: The Railroad Man; although I always wonder what a more modern incarnation in our present would look like.

Ever onward, ever forward, yes?
