The post war "British" identarian construct is totally artificial. Britain is a multinational, multilingual and multicultural space and has been for centuries. To impose a single (Anglo) identity on the peoples of these isles is an act of egregious imperialism.

At any rate, Labour's "Britishness" is a post-war construct. Prior to that their policy was Home Rule. The Empire crumbled post war and a new identity was constructed and that is what our modern State notion of "Britishness" is. It began with the post war govt and thats why Labour cling to it.
