POINT OF ORDER:
This is distinct from bands/artists that you HAVE listened to and can’t stand/don’t understand what all the fuss was about. This is more like people that you have heard of because they were a big deal to your friends/generation but you have absolutely no file on them.

Tricky one to pull off. Respect

I’m mostly the same I think

No certainly, more just that they were a big thing for people who are pretty much dead on my age. That’s more the thing of it. That there’s cultural shorthand between your contemporaries that is just 🤷🏼 to you

I have noticed this actually! Maiden fans are often their own nation-state

I refused to engage with the Arctic Monkeys for ages also. Then I was in a band that wanted to cover a few of their songs and learning them warmed me up to them a bit.

Also have a nice memory of seeing them at a festival
In Belgium but that might just be the fizzy jam they serve there for beer.

Mate - STILL never listened. Let Stewart Lee listen and make us feel bad for not instead. More fun

Go, be free. Yes The Black Parade is ‘Very well
Produced and musically accomplished, actually’ but you could get the same
Effect from just putting later Floyd and Queen in a blender and dying it black

While I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’ve no time, I have never owned or even listened to an entire album

Oh but that’s not a blind spot! That’s a maturation in your taste I’d say x

There’s a reason why the term ‘indie landfill’ exists now. It was so common and disposable it might as well have been sold in primark

Ha!

I used to have that with TV a lot. My need to know and therefore preserve the core benefit of the fading monoculture (shared frames of reference from fiction) has eased off as the futility of that battle has become more apparent.
