The Trump administration worked get Ukraine's trust by appearing to turn against Russia. They once they regained leverage through promises of weapons and intelligence, they turned around and hit Ukraine with this.

Trump wanted to know Ukraine's long range targets in Russia. He'll tell Putin next week. Tomahawks were just a way to extract the info.

With the new MAGA supporting Polish President and Poland being one of the few places that will still have US troops, I fear that the US troops in NATO would be a Trojan horse if Russia attacked the the Suwalki Gap

Call me cynical, but I believe a "peace deal" will only last long enough for Ukraine to hold elections. Russia is waiting for Zelensky to go, then it will attack again. Also, Russia will support right wing parties in the EU and the security guarantees will melt away.
