Hope needs to be strategic. Hope through action. Choose your spots. Give space for exhaustion. But act as though you're full of hope. It doesn't matter if you believe, it matters that you do.

Elections. Those special elections just happened and Virginia especially is a bellwether. Work hard. Show up. Fight the attempts to steal it. Resist. I just heard that in 70% of cases of attempts at this since WWII, democracies survive and make the U-Turn away from competitive authoritarianism.

It was a stupid fucking choice to cave, but I'm with @joshtpm.bsky.social that this can probably even redound to Democrats' benefit in the long run.

The one caveat being that it reinforces the narrative that Democrats won't fight and can't get out of their own way. And I think that really matters.
