It's cognitive dissonance preventing ppl from seeing it. By allowing the scales to fall from their eyes, they would have to deny they wrapped their entire identity around Trump and defended him, and that would leave them where they lack an identity. It requires deprogramming to counter it.

Dems keep thinking decorum and reaching across the aisle is the best policy, but the GOP realized the best way to win is go full on at the middle and lower income populations anxiety and fears with a dagger like precision. Meanwhile Dems are like "hey, man. Like why we all hating each other so much"
