This comes out at just 11 stops over 24 km of rail, which is FAR better than other lines in Singapore and could've allowed for faster rail service with interchanges to more bus & rail services! Hell, if you wanted to, you COULD cut it down to just 8 for max efficiency.

Lastly, north of Bukit Panjang, the line could've stopped to supplement Yew Tee and added a stop around Mandai, made it's only deviation from it's past route to connect to Kranji & the NSL, then gone on to a direct cross-border interchange at the current KTM station.

This section, combined with the stretch down to Buona Vista, is a damn good section of RER-like express rail, with just one stop in 9 km of rail line between Bukit Panjang and Buona Vista. Like, it's right there! It was SO viable!

And THEN comes my favourite bit. The old Bukit Timah railway station is right at KAP, and the rail corridor goes along the now DTL to Bukit Panjang. So, just add a station there and you have an express stretch of the DTL along the northwest!

Like just to start out, from the old Tanjong Pagar Station to Buona Vista, it already acts as an express version of the (already overworked) Circle Line, connects directly to a bus interchange, and passes thru some dense & underserved areas in Bukit Merah.

Forgive my bby urbanist ass, but couldn't SG have kept the rail corridor as a RAIL corridor?

Heck, as an express MRT line with a good track length/station ratio, it seemed like the perfect place. Would've needed work (mainly duplication), but it's a GOOD transport corridor! 🧵
