There’s something about sitting on my front porch surrounded by native mining bees busy at work that grounds me. Hundreds of them swarming around and they’re completely unaware of my existence. Their hum. The birds singing. Sun almost directly overhead. A soothing reminder that life goes on.

Beautifully speaking, in 2024, I burst into tears because I saw an openly gay Black man in his late 40’s joyfully embraced by his heterosexual white male friend in his late 20’s. I had never seen such love before and I was in awe of it because of my indoctrination.
