Today we thank God for St. Simon and St. Jude, blessed apostles of Christ, who travelled together to spread the Gospel and were both martyred. Blessed are we to still hold the traditions they passed down from Jesus; traditions they bled for. Lord, open our hearts to live the faith they proclaimed

Today in the Anglican tradition we thank God for St. Ignatius, bishop of Antioch, foundational theologian, and martyr at the hands of Rome. I particularly love orthodox icons of his martyrdom.

On that note, I love the tradition of depicting him carrying his own flayed skin. It’s a bit gruesome, but such is martyrdom.
The fact he is also oft depicted as the one carrying the offending instrument shows the intentionality of maryrdom and takes violent power away from his persecutors
