Today we thank God for St. Simon and St. Jude, blessed apostles of Christ, who travelled together to spread the Gospel and were both martyred. Blessed are we to still hold the traditions they passed down from Jesus; traditions they bled for. Lord, open our hearts to live the faith they proclaimed

Today in the Anglican tradition we thank God for St. Ignatius, bishop of Antioch, foundational theologian, and martyr at the hands of Rome. I particularly love orthodox icons of his martyrdom.
Lord, bless You for granting every generation of Your followers everlasting life as we wrestle empires

Today in the Anglican tradition we thank God for St. Teresa of Ávila, theologian, nun, mystic, monastic reformer, and counter-reformation figure. Lord, let us answer as passionately as St. Teresa when You call on us and, as she did, work to bring Your Kingdom even when we face adversary from our own

Saw this beautiful piece ‘Jesus in the Midst,’ by Nicholas Evans (1974) as part of the Welsh mining history & art exhibit
Jesus, dressed in miner gear, stands at the dead end of a mineshaft holding a lit lantern in his right hand and a pair of keys in his left. Men bow and kneel desperately and his feet, clutching their hands in prayer; one man on Jesus’ right has his head in his hands. Their mining equipment is abandoned behind them, with rats crawling along the side. It is swathed in blue darkness witn the only light from Jesus’ headlamp styled as a nimbus, and the lantern he holds.

Today in the Anglican tradition, we thank God for Bishop Lancelot Andrewes. He was one of the chief translators of the KJV Bible, overseeing the First Westminster Company that did Genesis - 2 Kings! Lord, grant us the same fiery spirit to use the gifts You have given us to further Your Kingdom ❤️‍🔥

On that note, I love the tradition of depicting him carrying his own flayed skin. It’s a bit gruesome, but such is martyrdom.
The fact he is also oft depicted as the one carrying the offending instrument shows the intentionality of maryrdom and takes violent power away from his persecutors

Mary’s Magnificat remains one of the most powerful calls for justice. It reminds us God will never forget the meek, for He’s already come for us when He became Incarnate through Mary. Let us, like Mary, rejoice that the rich and powerful that perpetuate evil are only temporary.
The Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55) My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name. He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. Taylor, even during his trials under the Protectorate, served people & God as he was able. Lord, grant us the same strength to serve You under all adversity.
