My least favorite character to be "in the mind of" is the one who belives the reward is worth obedience. That anything, any caste, is worth the price of admission. Even living on rice & corn, $20 a week to feed 3 people, I couldn't make sense of this. Perhaps we weren't starving enough.

I used to be terrified of reviews--any review--good reviews that might praise every iota of nonsense I could put to paper and unnecessarily inflate my ego, and bad reviews that would obliterate any whisper of confidence and will to carry on in myself.

Feedback on a scene I felt depicted strength (from child survivor's PoV), said, "I can't imagine anyone leaving a child like this. I want to fight them." Nothing of the child/adult protag. Is the scene wrong, or leave readers to their own insight and perspective?

My 3 year old child brought me the tiny potted plant I picked up months ago, demanding we 'give water sippy' to the plant. So we watered it, admiring leaves and little flowers.

Now I keep thinking the adventures of a ladybug to save a beloved plant? 😆 Brain, please.

Every time I think about my 'target audience', I picture people who've been through it. The shoulder set, the head tilt, the repetitive and thorough scanning of their surroundings. The ones who notice someone about to fall, before they even stumble. What genre is that? #writing
