I am interested in comic authors that take pride in the medium. Indie and big two are two vastly different mediums, and it's insulting to see a hired author put less effort into a canon book than the kids on AO3. Comics take 5 minutes to skim per issue. Huntress year one is six issues. 30 minutes.

So read? They're comic books. James Gunn read like crazy to give us the best Superman movie he could. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask someone to consult the texts they are basing their work off? Even fanfiction authors put in more than a conversation with their friends.
