Just saw the new Jurassic World movie. I liked it. I'm kinda over the mutant dinosaurs, but I appreciated the plot and Jonathan Bailey brought a good energy to the franchise.

Camp Cretateous/Chaos Theory still reigns supreme for Jurassic Park content, though.

Recently saw a bunch of films on a flight. Here's my 20 second review:

The Day the Earth Blew Up: charming, and such a good time
Green Lantern: Beware My Power: DC animations just aren't hitting like the used to
Rock of Ages: This does not hold up well

Making a quiz in Canvas is so tedious, and I'm not sure I can even articulate why. I much prefer Formative.

Unfortunately Formative does not have a formula generator for math questions (x+5, where x is a random number for each student).

Canvas does but it's still sort of janky :/

Goddamn. Next week my juniors start their state testing. Two weeks straight of ELA and math. Then it's spring break for the last week of April. I see them for a week and it's AP testing season. I'm basically done seeing my students in any real, functional way after Friday.

Adding Flow to my rotation of movies to show after AP tests for Environmental Science. Not only do the animals act like animals (for the most part), but it correctly demonstrates the value of cooperation between living organisms. The most successful state of nature is co-existence.

It's almost 1 am and I'm putting the finishing touches on my field trip in the morning. I'm taking 138 juniors to physics day at a local amusement park. It's very nerve wrecking, but it's an experience the students will remember for years! Plus it's cool to take the data on the rides 📚

So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at USAID.

This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC.

What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.
Elon Musk: "We will make mistakes. We won't be perfect ... so for example, with USAID, one of the things we accidentally canceled very briefly was ebola prevention."

They're said three times in three ways that the plan is to lie low as far as ICE goes.

They're products of their time, unfortunately.
February 19, 2025 at 3:47 AM
Oooh. The board is "aghast" that people are speaking for more resources against ICE, claiming they passed a resolution in 2019.

Their rationale for not passing any concrete policy is because they don't want to draw attention to our small district. I'm not buying it, but that's just me I guess.
February 19, 2025 at 3:38 AM
They're going through the State of the District. It's funny to hear them brag about things like attendance trends, when we just got done with our union meeting where we dissected how the district abuses weak policy to inflate those numbers. Smh.

Another school board meeting. Abbot Elementary had the right idea- we need District Bingo Sheets.

Just teacher things: planning to use your Monday off to catch up completely on grading.

I know it's not very "work your contract" but I am behind, and clearing out my grade book will clear my mind.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise: one of the great things about being a teacher is fucking off all summer.

Ya boy is going to London to see Beyonce!

Republican policy is just DEI for racist and bigots, and I hate that the irony is lost on most of their followers.

My robotics team advanced to the next round, so I’ve been on a special assignment. Working with a small team of six students has been eye-opening—I feel like I’ve made more impact this week than all year. Small class sizes matter! We need to invest more in the next generation, not less.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent.

Opportunities are everywhere.

Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

In 1850, the California government banned the controlled burning that Indigenous people had been doing for centuries. The practice controlled the forest density, scaled down undergrowth, and promoted fire-resistant species. It reduced the severity, mileage, and overall number of forest fires. 1/5
