Someone got rid of their SF collection, which means that lots of classics of the genre and back issues of the F&SF magazine washed up at the second hand bookstores here in Bilbao...
This was a particularly strong issue. Highlights were a take on animals evolved into anthropomorphic beasts à la 1/-

Currently reading Nnedi Okorafor's Lagoon. Even 11 years after it was published it is so refreshing to find aliens arriving in Nigeria instead of central Kansas....

Anybody says out loud film/song quotes for recurring everyday situations even when there's no one around, or is it just freak me?

FOR ALL MANKIND 's Leningrad episode broke my heart with the much awaited encounter between my two favourite characters of the show... 😥

Only five more episodes to go! It's such a relief to know there's another season on the way... #forallmankindtvshow

This was a great read. Lewis makes believable the quick collapse of American democracy under the attack of populism allied with big capital, using the Presidency as the Trojan Horse that allows them to destroy civil liberties from within the system.
Only missed the prediction by less than 100 years.

Listening to Springsteen's Nebraska for the zillionth time.
I'll watch the movie, but it bugs me the grandiloquence of the narrator claiming "he was about to repair... THE WORLD".

With Born in the USA? During Reagan's?

"We're gonna need a bigger wrench..."

The trouble with reading books as you come across them in second-hand bookshops is that sometimes you screw up the gateway to an author... Case in point: Brian Aldiss' The Eighty-Minute Hour.

Which title of his do you think I should have tried first?

Siempre da alegría encontrar a Almudena Grandes en librerías de otros países. Ésta es Jesenski & Turk, en Zagreb, Croacia. The Wind from the East es el título que eligieron para la traducción al inglés de Los aires difíciles.

Jesenski & Turk had a good Fantasy-Science Fiction section down at the basement. Mostly in Serbo-Croatian, of course, but quite a few titles in English as well...

Here's the book haul from two of Zagreb's lovely second-hand bookshops, Što čitaš? (What are you reading?) and Jesenski & Turk.
Fun fact: the Van Vogt pulpy edition of The Mind Cage was available in both stores.

To quote this year's theme for Alt theatre festival FAKI: "To Care is to Resist".

Reading this 1974 anthology I come across Alfred Bester's story about a perfume creator genius who describes scents and their combinations like music notes and a musical composition, but secretly is a murderer...

...wonder if Patrick Süskind read this...

Me ha llegado "Arte salvaje" el libraco que @espop.es me regaló por Sant Jordi, y que tiene una pinta brutal, nunca mejor dicho...

Pondré por aquí enlace a la reseña que les debo.

This was an insane reading.

SHADOW AND CLAW were at points a bloody trudge, but at some point through SWORD it clicked, and I started shaking my head in amazement.
And the bastard warns you in the last pages you MUST reread it to get it all, ffs.

Moby Dick level of pedantry and lyricism. Loved it.
