Planted in front garden b/t yesterday & today. Now we not-so-patiently wait. ⏳🪴
The front garden winter pansies in a planter, black stained glass kitty stake, and list of bulbs and specifics about their blooming times, height, colors & uniqueness of blooms. Exciting! Planted all except the 2 bags (16 bulbs) of the Foxy Foxtrot Tulipas, which are sitting in the refrigerator crisper drawer, waiting for their required later planting time, which I’m now trying to remember!! 🌷🙇‍♀️ I had to wait to plant the bulbs for the 1st window of 4 consecutive days of low temperatures below 50°. Finally going to hit that this Thanksgiving week! Yet another thing for which to be grateful. 😊

📍 Update: 12th & Final Block ✅
… next is a trip to the fabric store for the coordinating solid “offset” blocks in the quilt’s center section. It’s a process!
Final Block, the 12th, is finally done! This block has 4 fabrics: solid blue, white with tiny blue circle outlines, star shaped blue/white on dark blue background print, and multi-blue crosshatch print. The 11 other quilt blocks arranged on 2 white tables in our Quilt Class classroom. Lots of variety. It will be interesting how this all comes together. I’m not really into sampler type quilts, so this semester’s project was outside my usual “style”.

📚 Finished Last Night: When The Cranes Fly South 🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛ a poignant tale of 89 year old Bo’s last days, losing autonomy, control over his days to caregivers/son. Losing his wife to dementia, his best friend, & now having to surrender his beloved dog, Sixten, Bo is ready to go. Very sad & realistic.😢

Look at this hot mess. ☹️ Today is last quilt class for the semester. I’m going to scrap this one… too wonky & so many puckers. Ugh. Stay tuned - bought fabric yesterday to make a different final block. But in meantime, I’m going into today’s class having learned how NOT to do Y-Seams!

She’s quite involved in TNR and kitty rescue work and I’m so glad she shared this delightful book with me. Cat people are pretty wonderful. This book tells the power of loving and caring about a single stray black kitty, Cat, to bring good into the world. And look at that tipped ear on the book cover!!! 🖤

📚 The Lincoln Highway
🛣️ 🛣️ 🛣️ 🛣️ 🛣️ 1954, 4 young men & a boy headed on a 10 day road trip intended to be along The Lincoln Highway. So many detours. So much a metaphor for life. President Lincoln & references to him play key parts in this masterpiece of storytelling. Highly, highly recommend.
Book Cover: The Lincoln Highway, written by Amor Towles. Ever since I read A Gentleman In Moscow, I’ve known I wanted to read all of Mr. Towles books. I’ve not been disappointed and this one is no exception. Such a storyteller he is - this one is long at 576 pages, but oh so worth the read. Learned a lot about the Lincoln Highway of which I’d never heard. Like: (Source: Lincoln Highway Association) “The Lincoln Highway, dedicated in 1913, was the first transcontinental highway in the United States designed for automobiles. The 3,000-mile route stretched from Times Square in New York City to Lincoln Park in San Francisco. I did my part yesterday, as did so many. Every vote really does matter.💙
Our local election I Voted sticker bearing the U.S. flag. I voted on the 17 propositions on our local election ballot yesterday. The wait in line was 30 minutes, which was astonishing considering no candidates were on the ballot, just propositions mostly on school funding & property taxes. It seems people are paying more attention and wanting their voices heard, which is a good sign.

One of my Quilt Class classmates makes these beautiful burial gowns for stillborn babies. She makes them for local hospital(s) from wedding gowns that people have donated. What a labor of love, including those who donated their wedding dresses. Update: No new assignments today; just to complete 12th block. One of my more experienced quilt classmates has finished her quilt top! She does beautiful work.📍
Finished quilt top completed by one of my Quilt Class classmates. Features all her 12 Quilts Blocks and all the borders. She said if she did it again, she’d pick a different, less “busy” fabric in the center section around the 12 Quilt Blocks instead of the same floral fabric used on the outer border. This has me thinking about the fabric I’ve already purchased for my center area—might go with a more solid fabric.
