Here’s the bottom line:
Thiomersal isn’t dangerous in vaccines.
It was removed as a “just in case,” not because of proof of harm.
And vaccines don’t cause autism.
End of story — but apparently, not end of myth.

So why does the myth live on?
Because personal stories feel more powerful than statistics.
Because social media feeds us what we already believe.
Because people trust celebrities more than scientists.
And because it’s easier to blame one thing than face uncertainty.

What does the science say?
Dozens of big, high‑quality studies show:
• No link between thiomersal and autism
• No link between any vaccine and autism
Every major health body (CDC, WHO, AAP) agrees on this.

And here’s the kicker: after thiomersal was removed, autism rates… went up.
If it had been the cause, rates should have dropped.
Surprise, surprise ...
They didn’t.

Why did they take it out?
In 1999, health agencies in the US and EU said: “Let’s remove it from most childhood vaccines, just to be safe.”
Not because it was proven harmful but as a precaution to lower overall mercury exposure.

Which vaccines had it?
Back in the 80s and 90s:
• DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis)
• Hib
• Hepatitis B
It was never in the MMR vaccine, despite what the rumours say.

Why put it in vaccines at all?
Because some vaccines come in multi‑dose vials.
Each time you stick a needle in, germs could get in too.
Without a preservative, contaminated vaccines could make people very sick or worse.
Thiomersal prevents that.

What is thiomersal?
It’s a preservative made with ethylmercury, very different from the toxic methylmercury you hear about in fish.
It stops bacteria and fungi from growing in vaccines.
It’s also in things like eye drops, nasal sprays, even some tattoo inks.

Cóż, marzenia to piękna rzecz.
