I'll lean more that effigies of people that are carefully clothed and in tiny coffins, buried in isolation is to give those who they represent proper rest.

Though its parody; it reminds me a lot of local "archaeologists" that identify ruins of cattle enclosures as ancient calendars with "spiritual energy".
