Hid out in my parents closet last night to get some pics of their owl babies before they make their way from the box to the tree and their camouflage renders them invisible.
Two screech owl babies in an owl box. Dad is perched on the side of the box making a quick food delivery before flying back into the night. Three owl babies in an owl box. The one on the far left fledged while I was watching. Good luck little fluff nugget! The remaining two owlets in their box staring me down wondering what that strange clicking sound is.

Spent the weekend hiking around one of my favorite spots. While I always see evidence of coyotes, Ive never seen one at this park, and I saw my second ever wild bald eagle!

Been going through old family photos with my dad over the holiday break. Tonight he sent me this one of his mother’s parents, James and Elsie, just before their wedding in 1914. Don’t they look excited??!

Baklava cheesecake is out of the oven.
A cheesecake in a springform pan. The crust is made of phyllo dough wrapped around the cake so it looks all brown and crinkly crunchy. It’s drizzled in cardamom rose syrup and sprinkled with pistachios.

Saw someone on here doing tablet weaving on an inkle loom, while I have the supples for both crafts I never thought to combine them. Decided it would be the perfect new thing to try over my holiday break. Thank you random internet person for the inspiration, I having the most fun!
A rainbow weft for tablet weaving loaded onto an inkle loom. About 2 feet of completed weave. The rainbow pattern starts with purple on the outsides and red in the center. The pattern is interlocking diamond shaped bubbles.

It’s been so long since we’ve had a rainy day. I had to jump on the opportunity to visit one of my favorite cemeteries, Oakland Cemetery in Dallas, Tx. It’s a gorgeous old spot that goes on and on forever and luckily has a fabulous team of caretakers. I love it here.

I knew who my top artist would be and my top song but what I didn't realize was the amount of time I spent listening. Totally worth it tho. If you don't know Des maybe give Real Good Person in a Real Bad Place a listen. Its perfect from top to bottom IMO.

4th times a charm! I've been looking for this cemetery for 2 years. Today the underbrush was finally thin enough that I could get back to it. It breaks my heart to see history swallowed up like this.

8 headstones in an overgrown, brushy field at sunset. Historical marker for Harrington Cemetery. It reads "Bryant and Ryan Harrington, twin brothers left their native Kentucky by ox team for the California Gold Rush of 1849. The brothers came to Texas in 1855 and started a tintype photography business in Dallas By 1859 they were driving and guarding stagecoaches for the Butterfield-Crocker company. Later they began to purchase horses in Mexico for use on family ranchlands in Palo Pinto County until the threat of Indian raids forced them to cease operations. As a Texas Ranger in 1860, Ryan participated in the capture of Cynthia Ann Parker. While the twins were serving in the Confederate army during the Civil War, Ryan was captured by Union soldiers, but a Union colonel who was a fellow Mason helped him escape disguised in a federal uniform. in 1883, Bryant donated land for a Masonic lodge and school in the Estelle community, where he lived. He donated adjacent land for this family cemetery. His infant niece, who died in 1891, was the first family member to be buried here. Bryant and his wife, Mary Lucetta Woods, their children, a brother-in-law, and a sister-in-law were subsequently buried here. Ryan and his wife, Mary Lousetta Witten, are buried in the Witten Cemetery in Pleseant Glade.

Sometimes I go to the birds, sometimes the birds come to me. All of these were taken from my front yard. Sorry for the light carnage, circle of life and such.

Recently it came up that I did claymation as a kid. Now 13 wants to make that our new thing and came up with a story about a mouse in a kitchen. She sketched the inspo pic, I made the cricut file, together we built the set, we called in 10 to help wire the electrics. A fun project so far.

Today the husband took 13 to Guitar Center to play some guitars. They stayed for 4 hours. This kid is quite possibly the coolest human I have ever encountered.

Went for a walk, heard a hawk, found a hawk, photographed a hawk. That’s a successful walk in my book.

Today’s birds at a park on the edge of my neighborhood. Sometimes I get so into going on birding adventures that I forget these guys are basically right next door.
A great blue heron swooping low over a pond. There are lovely green and orange leafy plants in the background. Texas is finally getting some fall colors. A double crested cormorant against a lightly cloudy blue sky. His wings are both up and so is his beak. He kinda looks like a snooty prick if I’m being honest.

When your best friend buys a new house with long needle pines in the yard you get to go load yourself up with a ton of free art supplies before the weather gets gross and turns them to mush. Gonna weave so many little baskets this winter!
