That figure was agreed on by the Old Vine Project, partly because of leaf roll virus, after which vines rarely remain economically viable.
If you check out the website, you’ll see we have one vineyard dating to 1900, when records were started. A list of all over 35 are also listed.

OMG, I remember tasting chenin (& White Burgundy) with Larry Cherubino at Houghton in 1999, my first visit to Aus. For a Saffa, where Chenin was just on the
move, this was an eye opener. Sorry, off piste but it was memorable.

This is also true & I agree. Ship in bulk & local workers don’t get the benefication, then what about quality control at the end? It’s a Catch 22 situation, though I suppose there are reputable bottling companies.
