The last theatre trip of 2025 was to see ‘Peter Pan’. Because Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the wonderful Greenwich Theatre pantomime!

From James Haddrell’s top-notch ‘Blue/Orange’ at
Greenwich Theatre on Saturday to ‘The Lady from the Sea’ at The Bridge later. Connection: Andrew Lincoln from the latter appeared in the former’s 2000 premier. Penhall replaced his character in his effective reworking for Greenwich.

Brilliant immersive production of Jim Cartwright’s ‘Two’ at Greenwich Theatre last night, directed by James Haddrell. Fine performances, great use of the space, and a warm and appreciative audience. Such a memorable evening. Loved it.

Loved seeing Conor McPherson’s ‘The Brightening Air’ at the Old Vic this week. Funny, poignant, Vanya-esque… Brilliant performances from a wonderful cast. Beautifully staged, too.

Love Jez Butterworth’s work so it was great to see such a fine production of ‘Parlour Song’ directed by James Haddrell at Greenwich Theatre last night. Excellent in all its elements.

Read in 2024: 23 novels (3 fat ones!) and 3 playscripts. And ‘Big Panda, Tiny Dragon’ on audiobook late one night when I needed to feel more Zen! Kicking off 2025 with ‘Stone Blind: Medusa’s Story’ by Natalie Haynes.

Back to the 60s at Greenwich Theatre last night for yet another excellent panto – a time-travelling Dick Whittington and his very cool saxophone-playing cat! Terrific cast, brilliant music and sets, lots of laughter and a very happy audience. Such a fun evening.

Hot choccie before some fish gutting at Greenwich Theatre last night! Really enjoyed Jez Butterworth’s ‘The River’, directed by James Haddrell. Intriguing play, beautifully staged and lit, superb performances – Paul McGann was perfect as The Man.

This was brilliant – and made all the richer by reading ‘The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ first. I’ll be a very happy reading bunny if it wins the Booker Prize in November.

‘Waiting for Godot’ at the Theatre Royal Haymarket last night. What a brilliant and truly memorable production of this play. The Lucian Msamati/Ben Whishaw pairing is perfection.

Eleven years ago I saw Theatre Movement Bazaar’s ‘Track 3’ and I still talk about it! Great to see them at Greenwich Theatre again with ‘Tiny Little Town’. A brilliant, joyous and timely adaptation of Gogol’s ‘The Government Inspector’. Its excellent Edinburgh Fringe reviews are spot on!
