I love art & architecture, gardens, ballet & travel. I work as a licensed tourist guide with my car, spending days or weeks showing visitors my corner of the UK.
Putting the star on top of the tree.

Sandycombe Lodge, designed by 19th century artist JMW Turner as a country home for himself and his father.
This house was rescued and restored by local enthusiasts who now lead fascinating tours for visitors. Great stories of fishing and convivial evenings with friends. It's in Twickenham, London.

Alexander Pope's Grotto, in the gardens of his home beside the River Thames in Twickenham, London.
His house was demolished in early C19, but his contribution to the then current fashion in romantic landscape garden design survived and is occasionally open to the public.

Lyon has many hidden passageways between houses & apartments called traboules. They are behind doors, covered, and often open into courtyards. Sympathetic residents allow access to inquisitive visitors. This one was created in C16 by a fine architect, adapting the space between pre-existing houses.

The approach on foot from Lyon airport to its railway station.
When I leave I must make sure I allow enough time to walk around the outside of this building by Santiago Calatrava

Neolithic standing stones at Carnac in Brittany, stretching in long lines for several kilometres. Extraordinary.

On a freezing day in Brittany, the church on top of Mont Saint-Michel is lost in the clouds.

A favourite time of year, when there's still hope that Britain will have a summer, but more importantly, some of my favourite flowers are in bloom.
I am lucky to do garden tours - these gorgeous hydrangeas are at Anne Hathaway's Cottage (Shakespeare's wife, not the actor) in #Stratford-upon-Avon.

This morning I saw some wonderful drawings in the Drawing the Italian Renaissance exhibition at the #kingsgallery, #buckinghampalace. All the artists you would expect are represented, but I always enjoy a new discovery, so I don't mind saying that Polidoro da Caravaggio is new to me. I love this.

This was one of my very favourite days this year, visiting Skomer Island on the Pembrokeshire coast to see these funny little sea birds, at my clients' request.
When I took this photo I didn't notice the puffin in the top right corner flying in to land on the cliffs!

The magnificent cloisters at Gloucester Cathedral. I always love having the chance to see this, even when in theory I am there because I am working, and seeing Harry Potter film locations is what brought us there!

Some recent travels to follow over the next few days, both work and personal, just to establish a foothold. And because I like looking at the photos.
