Residents in New Haven are more likely to report having suicidal ideation, but experts say that might be due to a willingness to talk about it. "The science shows us that asking youth and adults about suicide is not directly harmful or suggestive. It’s OK to ask." ctmirror.org/2025/08/22/s...

The idea for this came from AI analysis of the hefty budget and bond bills that passed this session. I spoke to redemption center owners, politicians, industry lobbyists, grocery store staff, bottle returners, and examined government documents to report the story.
Redemption rates rose since CT bumped its bottle deposit to 10 cents, but some blame returns from out of state. Hard data is lacking.

When social media posts concerned about #diquat went viral, we analyzed hundreds of DEEP permits and found diquat has been a standard treatment for aquatic invasive species in Connecticut for years.
Recent plan to use diquat on hydrilla in the Connecticut River set off viral opposition campaign. But its use is common across the state.

I used AI to analyze 8 hours of public hearing testimony for this story. After a lawmaker cited sexually explicit language in Monday's budget debate, I used an AI model to flag explicit quotes from a public hearing on the same topic in February. ctmirror.org/2025/06/03/c...
