She/her Retired Social Studies teacher. 20 years of prying open minds and shoving in the good stuff. Middle school. Ask me how to get kids to like history. I am not a miracle worker, but I know some tricks.
OK, I love this. A great article on the theme of "how do we know". You can't just tell students WHAT we know know. You have to teach them HOW we know it. Otherwise it is just blather.

Another wonderful jumping off place for larger discussion. She brings up a comparison, or false comparison, really, between ancient and modern "modestly".

This is just a tiny sound bite, but students could work in small groups to research archeological records of women's labor, I am thinking of this study and discoveries about women in what had previously been thought to be warrior or hunter's graves. www.facebook.com/share/r/17NG... Then share.

This gives so many new ideas about how early humans may have recorded memories. What if the history is written everywhere and we just can't read it. www.instagram.com/reel/DQboe6U...

Another good resource for to use as a hook, or a jumping off place for learning about Mesopotamia, women in science, and for including "women's work" in science as *real* science! www.instagram.com/reel/DQj5Tp3...

We had done a lot of learning about ancient Greece, and had a review/Socratic style discussion while we ate. Kids wore togas made of sheets. One student who had been hard to figure out instantly became the perfect water bearer, refilling everyone's cup. He just needed to move.

Long ago, in my 1st or 2nd year of teaching, I borrowed a microscope from the science department and talked to students about the flax fibers found in caves dating back to the times mentioned in this article. That they also used indigo to dye them blue is a wonder! www.instagram.com/p/DPy5jhBDDY...

Has he dropped a ton of weight? Or is that just the aspect ratio or something?

"Addicted" is a bullshit word. Don't be jealous because Tik Tok is more engaging than CNN.
