The perspective on that photo isn’t terribly clear. Here’s a better photo where you can see that they are basically so that bridge crew can go all the way out and see over the side of the ship. Particularly helpful when docking.

A view of the same enormous shipping vessel from above and behind. The superstructure (bridge etc) near the front of the ship can be seen to be the same width as the ship.

It’s tilted to the ecliptic by about 30°.

I’m adding a screenshot from a planetarium-type program, simulating this evening’s arrangement. You can see Mercury and Venus along the eclipse, and the comet’s orbit is shown with the comet on it.

Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS (C/2023 A3), at 7:05PM EDT this evening at an altitude of approximately 5° (solar altitude was about -12°). This is a 3-second exposure on an iPhone at 15x magnification.

A comet floats in a still-bright sky, shading from medium blue at top to very pale at bottom. Several tree silhouettes can be seen at bottom. Comet head is about ¼ from bottom, with tail faintly distinguishable in the 11-o’clock direction to about the midpoint of the photo. The halo of a streelight can be seen at right edge at the same height as the comet.

Western suburbs of Boston…

The night sky is pink with several well-defined brighter streaks. Towards the horizon the pink gets lighter in color and several white blobs can be seen. The view is obscured by a house and a tree.

Best night sky photo I’ve ever taken was with my iPhone 13 Pro…

A sky full of stars. A brighter band with a dark rift runs horizontally across the middle. It is our galaxy in the general direction of the Summer Triangle (Deneb is left-middle, Vega is top-middle, and Altair is lower-right); the rift is the Northern Coalsack, a dark cloud of dust blocking the stars beyond it.
