Purdue things, Boiled Sports
UNC went with Bill Belichick.
UCF went back to Scott Frost.
WVU went back to Rich Rod.

Purdue was the only P4 program running a sane football coaching search.

thinking about this new cfb landscape - when would a B10/SEC team ever start a non-5 star underclassman qb, if so many proven older players want to transfer up?

the best path for a 3- or 4-star qb recruit who isn't getting much $$$ is to get two solid years of numbers at a G5 and transfer up to P2.

on paper Odom is a tremendous get for Bobinski and Purdue - coach at multiple stops, Big 2 experience, has a history of identifying great assistant coaches, he's both a hardass and players coach, and he finished this season with his G5 team inside the Top 25.

i don't understand the apprehension to Tyson Helton from some Purdue fans at all.

HC track record, player development, playing style, coaching staff hiring success, innovation with the transfer portal, regional fit, great vibes.

perfect fit. seems like some Purdue people just want to complain.

i still want Helton at Purdue idc idc idc

(i want Purdue to hire a CEO and hire Tyson Helton and announce both on Saturday)

"fans" who pushed the off-field Walters rumors should be buried under Ross Ade and never heard from again
December 2, 2024 at 4:15 PM
the more i think about it, the more i think it'll be Helton for Purdue, and i've already talked myself into it, and will be buying Homefield WKU gear in tribute for their constant flow of good coaches to West Lafayette.

the Extremely Online anger at Bobinski is odd - there were things to be annoyed about, like the "trending towards" keeping Walters story, but once the Harrell firing happened and the season continued without Bobinski's comment, it was clear.
did people really just want an early firing announcement?

to me, UNC is leagues better of a job than Purdue. yes, ACC vs B10, but UNC is a brand that will always be wanted and always be in the top half of whatever premium conference it chooses.
Campbell has earned the right to be choosy, and a job like UNC fits more than Purdue.
Serious question: Matt Campbell has been linked to the UNC job. Dude does more with less, ISU has higher academic standards than other B12 members, Midwest guy through and through, yet he (and ISU) gets no respect. if you're going to swing for the fences, maybe take a flier on him too?
December 2, 2024 at 2:37 AM
i think Tyson Helton is the most likely candidate for Purdue - seemingly the 2022 runner-up, has been vetted by the athletic dept, would take the job, wouldn't be as expensive staff + buyout.

but with Cignetti's football success at IU, at least try for the big swing in Chadwell.
Purdue should break the bank for Jamey Chadwell

thinking about Chadwell cs Cignetti in the Bucket Game next year
December 1, 2024 at 2:14 AM
hope Walters is gone after this loss.
not bc of the record or recruiting or anything football.
just bc i still have respect for these Purdue athletic dept decision-makers, and allowing football to fall apart to this point without any comment, and think he can possibly return to any success at all.

Myles Colvin has been such a star this year

Braden Smith has these moments of brilliance, but also makes overconfidence-driven mistakes. on replay, you can see exactly what he's thinking, but execution is just a bit off.
he'll round the corner where his body reacts as fast as his mind works soon, and will take another v fun leap.
November 28, 2024 at 8:23 PM
UNC is going to hire Arthur Smith instead of Jamey Chadwell and it's a hilarious mistake that Purdue should immediately take advantage of
i'll bet anything UNC passes over Chadwell - their mistake, and Purdue should take advantage

indians in this country really have to pick a side - solidarity or power/status. and too many of us are empty vessels with no morality whatsoever. it's gross and shameful.
Trump makes it official: JAY BHATTACHARYA, a co-author of the Great Barrington Declaration, is his pick to lead the National Institutes of Health.

A remarkable turn after Bhattacharya became a public health pariah four years ago, dismissed by the then-NIH director for his "fringe" views.

(everyone is waffling and just guessing about Purdue's decision on Walters - we will find out by Sunday one way or another, but there's a reason everyone is passing the buck on owning the original report)
November 25, 2024 at 8:21 PM
Purdue's new 6 year spending window, if Walters is fired and a similar football investment is made:

$10m to buy out this staff
$4m buyout for Chadwell
$40m to Chadwell
~$12m more for assistants + players

it's close to $66m over the next 6 years, $11m/year.

that's a lot. but also, B10 $$$.
I got ahold of Curt Cignetti’s MOU for his new deal. Biggest ticket items:

>> $11 million for staffing. That’s up ~$3.5-4 million.
>> Buyout is 85% of remaining income, 100% if IU makes the CFP or BTCCG.
>> He’ll make $8.3 million in Y1 inc. retention bonus.
