Cavanagh was one of the all-time greats. His John Peel book is essential, too.

It doesn’t get much shoddier than a single LP with 10 songs on each side and a running time of over an hour. But it’s the only Slade album I own, because it’s the only Slade album I can ever imagine wanting to own.

It runs about three and a half minutes. (I think it’s the same exit that was used on the Onobox way back when.)

There was a venerable marketing executive at A&M Records who used to ask staffers: “What kind of records do people most like to buy?” His answer was: “the ones they already own.”

Pro tip: Charisma switched distribution shortly after this was released. The original B&C pressings are vastly inferior to the later Phonogram pressings.

I’ve spent a lot of years working with unissued recordings by dead or absent artists without an explicit “sure, you can release that.” The ethical aspects of this are complex and always in flux, but involve much more than just “because I want it.” (My one absolute principle is: first do no harm.)

It's not the same as Halifax, I realize, but there are some other fantastic Sally Wainwright shows out there; Gentleman Jack, in particular. Her newest series, Riot Women, just started running in the UK last week.
