Historian. Research interests include Nicaragua’s Grand Canal, the Indian Slave Trade, the Plan de San Diego, and the Borderlands in general. Dabbling in math, sci-fi, and miniature painting.
Application for intramural research grant—submitted. Letter of interest to be president of my university—submitted. Granted, those are two radically different futures.

Yesterday I thought it was okay to build today’s to-do list around my last goodbye to a beloved family member and writing 250 words on the horrific proportion of Indian children in adoptive/foster care services in the 20th century. Time travelers can feel free to kick the shit out of yesterday me.

Same as it ever was
"The dog understands: 'Take it!' It does not understand: 'Put it down!'" True 3,900 years ago when a young Mesopotamian scribe copied the proverb onto a round school tablet; still true today! #cuneiform #Mesopotamia #dogs Tablet: BM U.17207.77, CDLI P346305; sculpture: Louvre AO 4349, CDLI P386356

Taking one of my brothers and his fam to a Chihuahuas game (minor league baseball) tonight. He’s always been big into the sportsball.

I always enjoyed watching my kids in everything from dance to sports to academic competitions. I’m surprised but loving that I’m still in the stands cheering them on. Today it’s watching my thirty-something speak to legislators about her analysis on early childhood spending.

Is there a programmatic accreditation that would encompass history programs specifically or humanities programs in general? #academicsky

Such a terrible fate and far worse of a situation than the folks searching for political and economic sanctuary face.

Jobs won’t come back because “globalization has conditioned the average American consumer to want what the average American worker cannot provide.”

A margarita with the El Paso Margaritas (Chihuahuas)!Tonight’s giveaway is a reminder that Día de los Muertos is 100ish days away. And now it’s time to put up the phone and brace for incoming balls.

A threat and the shape of things to come all rolled into one.

One of my colleagues and a union comrade was abducted at the Camarillo action yesterday.

We still don't know where he is, who is holding them, or any other information about his status.

If you're in the area, please reach out to the folks listed in the press release and donate to the bail fund.

We strongly condemn the abduction of California Faculty Association professor, member and activist Jonathan A. Caravello, Ph.D. and other community

I passed through an I-10 border patrol check point once again last night on my way home because, you know, freedom. Instead of the customary citizenship question the agent asked where we were born. It took about 10 minutes for irritation to turn into shock that this is the shape of things to come.

In one of several cool but solemn moments in this past trip I was able to snorkel near Manaha and free dive 20 feet to touch the wreckage of a Japanese Zero. All went well until… I rolled to come back up, started kicking hard, and my swim trunks pulled down.

Hafa Adai! I’ve flown out of some small commuter terminals before but this one has more character than any of them. Off to Tinian we go!

And now I’ve been stung by a bee, from the hive in my own front yard no less. Time to roll the dice and see if I have my dad’s horrifically bad allergy to bee stings.

I’m quite proud to say that the faculty and librarians at my uni are in the process of unionizing. We had more than 2/3 or eligible members signing up in just a few weeks. www.santafenewmexican.com/news/local_n...

So far this week I have shown up a day early at a facility an hour away for a colonoscopy*, blown a deadline by juxtaposing some of the digits in the due date, and preheated an oven and set a timer only to come back and see my pizza sitting by the oven. Like and follow for more tips on mindfulness.

I have “good” insurance. A comprehensive metabolic panel is a $60 copay + 20% of total costs. Or $39 if i pay cash out of pocket.
