A23a is about 100 metres thicker than A68 which bothered South Georgia a few years ago, so I don't expect it to get as close before it hits the seabed.

Though small, the remaining differences are still very much of interest to us !
It could be radar penetration into the snow, it could be laser scattering in spindrift, or it could be something else. They do seem to have a seasonal pattern, which is intriguing. Something for another day !
