Rugby, F1, playing guitar and choral singing (yes, really). Proud husband, dad and granddad, happily retired and living in Spain.
And the pitiful thing is that many of his supporters will range from seeing this as a badge of honour to simply accepting it and continuing to support him.

Rowing for the shore. The game's up when you go from "I didn't do it" to "well, it was a long time ago" to "I didn't mean it". Finally.

They elected a Reform Council claiming they'd save millions, to be spent on supporting people. I hate seeing people struggle, but they have to take ownership of the consequences of their votes. Farage et al are liars and charlatans, and are not the answer.

Yaxley-Lennon and his ilk are the antithesis of Christianity. And wait until they hear about the Middle Eastern refugees who fled persecution.

Not sure that a weakened Europe is in the US's interests.

Exhorting someone to refuse to act on illegal orders is the very antithesis of sedition.

"Rigging or slanting the news is...most heinous". Bit rich coming from the Trump administration.

It's a good job they didn't think that funding the CJS properly would alleviate the situation; instead, they can go for justice on the cheap. Except it is won't necessarily be justice, but just quicker disposal. Btw, given that Mags Cts are more likely to convict, where will the convicted go?

Partly climate-related, but the main reason is that post-2016, the UK has become a small-minded, bigoted, nasty little country. It's nothing like the country I grew up in, and that's down to those who proudly call themselves patriots, paint roundabouts and shout at hotels.

Sorry, I don't understand your reply. I agree with what you are saying, but my point is that Trump is only doing what he is doing because he thinks it will get him the Nobel Peace Prize. He doesn't care about what happens in Europe.
November 19, 2025 at 9:51 AM
I'm not sure this has anything to do with justice, long-term peace or security, but everything to do with Trump's insane and desperate desire for the Nobel Peace Prize.

'Leopards Eating People's Faces' Party writ large.

Stopped clock, and all that. Plus, she referenced the massive hike in her children's medical insurance premiums, so it may just be out of self-interest.

Please spare a thought for those of us normal Brits who live in Spain and will have to - yet again - face our Spanish friends and cringe.

I simply can't see how they could be considered to be overrated. Not just for their era, but now. My children and grandchildren love their music. Everything about it is top drawer - lyrics, melodies, harmonisation, instrumentation (notwithstanding awful aberrations such as Oh bla di Oh bla da).

I remember when it was a good newspaper - I didn't particularly go along with its political leaning but it was a good paper. Now it peddles lies and bigotry, and is regularly required to apologise. Smallest violin in the world available for the disgruntled staff.

Pre-ordered. Done. Based on the last one, I'm expecting some seriously good writing. No pressure.

E-book is always my preference, for reasons of convenience, reduction of paper use, and economy (I don't live in the UK and the import costs are significant).

Could he be any more of a Trump lickspittle?
November 12, 2025 at 9:11 AM
They've already apologised for poor editing, which is fair enough. No apology for the programme should be even considered. Trump did what he was accused of.
November 11, 2025 at 10:23 AM
Totally agree re Trump, but I was commenting on the wider problem of the BBC's obsession with finding balance, even where it doesn't exist. I well remember the climate change issue, where the scientists pretty much all agreed, so the 'balance' was a retired politician with an opinion.
November 10, 2025 at 8:39 AM
If someone is a proven criminal, it isn't biased to point that out. If balance is necessary, also report on what the law says. If the allegation is as yet unproven, surely the balance is to report what the person says about their actions and leave it to the viewer to decide.

I get why the reason for him going is bad, but if a bad guy is out, doesn't it provide an opportunity to appoint a good guy? I don't really understand the mechanics, but it sort of feels like "the enemy of my enemy" territory.
