Pediatric Infectious Disease physician scientist passionate about vaccinology as a means to improve public health. Views my own.
Thank you PBS and Dr Offit
for highlighting the new recommendations for vaccination that are backed by science and pediatricians. It is an absolute failure that the same is not true for the recommendations of the ACIP.

The loss of highly experienced CDC leadership is the latest devastating result of the Administration’s sustained attacks on public health, and it absolutely must be the last.

This will be a landmark day in the history of US science in a terrible way. Our administration fired 4 institute directors including NIAID without any cause. Being a scientist in America is quickly becoming impossible.

I also was a recipient of this incredible grant and this is a gigantic blow to the development of pediatrician scientists. #NIH do you want to improve children’s health?
The NIH grant that has supported 38 years of training the best pediatrician-scientists in the country (I’m a proud former recipient) was cancelled. It was just approved for a 5 year renewal. The PSDP has supported the careers of many NIH-funded pediatrician-scientists and thought leaders

Happy to see labs from the sane parts of the world open their arms to US PhD candidates who have been harmed by our government policies!
So, this is a open call to American students who lost a PhD offer into medicinal chemistry/drug design/organic synthesis. Please share broadly.
The Trant Team wants you. Apply now.

And the NIH anti-vaccination epoch officially begins. . . Terribly worried that vaccine development will be next.
NIH is abruptly terminating at least 33 research grants for projects studying why some people are hesitant to receive vaccines or evaluating strategies that could encourage vaccine uptake. scim.ag/4how23i

Very helpful data pulled from NIH RePorter by David O’Connor at U Wisconsin. Shows how different this years funding has been compared to the past 9 years. Helpful but scary to see.

So now all NIH.gov websites are down including PubMed where the public can access the results of scientific research. This coupled with the firing of all internal researchers at NIH is one more chapter in the end
of US science.
National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Official website of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NIH is one of the world's foremost medical research centers. An agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the NIH is the Federal focal point for health and medical research. Cancelling this meeting is so concerning. This meeting determines what goes into the flu vaccine every year. No flu vaccine 2025-2026 is a possible outcome of cancelling this meeting. The flu shot isn’t perfect but it saves lives every year.
An FDA vaccine advisory committee meeting scheduled for March to select the strains to be included in next season's flu shot has been canceled, a panel member says.

The canceled meeting comes just days after a CDC vaccine advisory committee meeting was abruptly postponed.

Nice to finally see a publication backing up what I have been stalking the NIH website to find. NIH is still effectively blocked from issuing new grants.
