If it is clear you can easily find Uranus. I took this picture with the iPhone. I have indicated which is Uranus to make it easy but binoculars are required unless it very dark.

Interstellar comet 3i/ ATLAS taken from my back garden this morning through. Its age is estimated at 7 - 11 billion years so billions of years older than the Solar System. Currently it is about 170 million mile away from us. Worth getting up at 5.30 to see! The SeeStar 50 captured this after 6 min

Following the Supermoon get together at Meadow park Edinburgh last Tuesday, I took the outreach Dob into the garden on Wednesday night. A couple of attempts holding the iPhone to the eyepiece gave these results.

Took the family to see the Greenwich meridian location in Cleethorpes but they have identified wrong place. The true meridian is a further 5” east of the place shown so I drew a line with a stone! I guess this was done pre GPS.

The Orange star is actually a number of stars very close together the biggest of which is a red super giant. It is 4383°.
The hotter blue star is 13200°.

A good look at the moon last night and a great time to see the craters along the shadow’s edge (the terminator). A pair of binoculars if you don’t have a telescope shows l lot of extra detail. I held an iPhone to the eyepiece and grabbed a couple of images.

There were 28 people from the estate came to look through the telescope tonight including a large number of children. They saw Venus, Jupiter and Mars and all said they enjoyed the experience. Must repeat when the moon is in the right place and the sky is clear.
