He also claimed he knew the politics of the journalists he worked with at the BBC and they were “left-wing”. Then appeared to realise maybe he shouldn’t go there. Astonishing. I never heard colleagues discussing their politics when I worked there in news for 25 years.

It’s not quite a “news” issue. BBC News is still part of BBC public service. The Panorama was a documentary made by an independent production company. But final sign off rests at BBC News executive level.

This is true but they hand their enemies ammunition with such carelessness. A transition such as a cross-fade rather than a simple edit would have flagged the fact that the two clips were from different parts of the speech.

Theatre too incredibly. Once leant forward during a performance of His Girl Friday at the National Theatre to ask a young couple to stfu. Wasn’t looking forward to the interval but they sloped off without eye contact or comment.
