I was wondering what to do on the day of reflection tomorrow. This year I lost my only Jewish friend, as I decided I could not associate with his repeated encouragement of genocide, In the Australian manner I will mow the lawn and think a bit.

Much as I try and ignore the US, it is very much part of me. Nobody writes about the US like Sarah, and I keep coming back to her work. Reading articles several times over. There is so much in this. https://sarahkendzior.substack.com/p/searching-for-bobbie-gentry

went to the Mt Eliza farmers market yesterday. One of the stalls had a woman serving with <exactly> the accent of Prue from Kath and Kim. You will be relieved to hear that I did not immediately burst out laughing, but it was a close thing.

I must admit that when Marcia Langton called out Melbourne Uni for employing two neo nazis, my reaction was "are you sure that is the full total?" #auspol

just got accosted by a local objecting to the $340m new development about 500m from here. I don't think I'll do my usual thing of lodging a letter of support, but I'm ok with it. #frankston

main pipe from the tank failed this morning. Just as well someone noticed or we could have lost the whole tank. #gardening

Proposition: it is not possible to frame a hate speech law in Australia targeted at Muslim hate preachers without it also scooping up most of One Nation #auspol (go for it Albo. Lock them all up)

Said (loudly) I will feed the dog in an hour. Set a timer and went outside to do some things. Literally one minute before timer is complete, dog inside starts barking. Incredible

most of One Nation trades on hate speech. Also a fair proportion of the Liberals and National Party #auspol

IS will seize opportunities. We dropped our guard (badly): that is the beginning and the end of the story.

[Bondi]

It looks like they had a few junior officers at this event. Honestly I’ve seen more at my local train station. So far the person who made this critical decision (it wasn’t Albo) has not even been identified. They need to come forward and be held accountable. #bondi

Politicians: what can we do in a crisis to amplify the total contempt the public has for us? let’s reduce the number of high powered guns a person has from five to four. Mission accomplished #auspol

full marks to Sarah Ferguson (ABC 7:30) for asking Josh Frydenberg the question we were all thinking. (Can’t recall exact words) : Is this a desperate attempt to resurrect a totally failed political career? #auspol #abc730

Dennis Glover (Age today) is completely wrong from the first sentence to the last. IS are trained, hard core terrorists. The false narrative about the “language of hate” which attempts to link those with legitimate concerns about Israel’s genocide to IS is completely ridiculous. #auspol

it's truly amazing what LLMs can achieve. we now know it's possible to produce an html5 parsing library with nothing but the full source code of an existing html5 parsing library, all the source code of all other open source libraries ever, a meticulously maintained and extremely comprehensive […]

I am reading Pynchon “Shadow Ticket” It is ideal for the times. Incredibly dense fictional world building set in the 1920s. There is a freedom in writing when you have a huge army of readers (like me) that will buy anything you write #bookstodon
